Love is also a four letter word. Among young people romantic love is in question. Do you, can you, should you want it with your sex? And what’s God to do with it? Here you can read Huffington Post blogger Roger Friedland’s ideas on the problem, get recent data on the contours of university students' love lives, share your own views and experiences, and hear what some of the most perceptive student observers of the college love world have to say. No not really. The morals that were planted in me when I was a kid will definitely change my love life and the outlook on it. Male 19, ucsb
ReplyDeleteI believe it has a lot to do with it especially because the morals are planted on you as a kid because that way you grow up with those morals and you set your mind to see sex as a way of loving the person you're going to spend your whole life with not just as a desire.

I don't believe in the Christian "God" but I do think there is something that is bigger than we are. I think I see God as love itself...and I guess that has changed my love life in the sense that I am more open to love, and I have faith in love. Rather than desensitize myself and become emotionally detached, I try to just be open and do what feels right without thinking about whether or not I'm being "too emotional." Because if you detach emotionally, what's the point in even being here? You don't feel sadness, joy, jealousy, love...and life becomes SO boring. So my relationship with my own sense of God definitely changes my love life. By being okay with falling in love and the possibility of getting hurt, I open myself up to so many possibilities that might otherwise pass me by without my knowledge.

A relationship with God either starts as a child, or later in life (post college). I highly doubt that there are many college students finding God in their lives today. With that said, If you were raised with these Godly morals, your outlook on love will without a doubt be different if you did not have these morals. Now, for those who develop a relationship with God later in life, well they may have already made the "mistakes" that you may make in college. A relationship with God, without a doubt, changes your love life and your outlook on sex altogether. Male 19, UCSB
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! The God of the Universe is present everywhere whether you believe it or not. He is a loving God and wants to guide us all to make healthy decisions about love and everything in life, not just love . So yes, My relationship with Jesus definitely changes my outlook on love. ReplyDeletemy realtionship with God is founded out of the fact that I was born and raised catholic. I went to catholic schools all the way to college and sex was always portrayed as an evil that I should not participate in. The catholic guilt trip has made me all but forget that there is a time and place where all fractions of society could agree that sex is ok and right and beautiful. Perhaps its because I'm catholic, but my relationship wtih God has not prevented me from having sex, but only made me feel worse about myself in the after effects

ReplyDeleteNO I don;t think god plays a part in sex, because there are some who believe in god, but have sex and do things that are not morally good. I don't go to church, and I have some belief in good, but i would never get drunk to the point of not knowing and have sex with someone that i didn't know.

ReplyDeleteI do feel like God affects my love life, as well as how I was raised and the values that I've grown up with. I was encouraged to not have sex until marriage and to not really indulge in that type of pleasure, but I have branched out into my own thinking. From my religion I've learned a sense of self-worth, so I would only have sex with someone I truly loved and I would only date someone who I could see myself falling in love with. I see sex as something that really should be treasured and should have as much of an emotional effect as much as a physical one. I even believe that God has helped me find the right guys, because all of the boyfriends I have had are very good people and treated me amazingly.
